Hòa Bắc có gì lạ ko em?
poem in Vietnamese
Mà nôn nao lòng anh đến vậy
Để chiều nay giữa chập chùng đồi núi
Anh đi tìm em cô gái tuổi xuân thì
Hòa Bắc có gì lạ ko em?
Mà xanh thẳm giữa nắng chiều về
Anh ngơ ngẩn giữa vườn cây con suối
Anh đi tìm em cô gái tuổi mộng mơ
Đã bao lần anh hẹn về quê em
Qua cầu Phò Nam trăng treo đầu núi
Anh ngỡ ngàn Nam Yên – Tà Lang – Giàn Bí
Say men rượu cần say điệu múa Cơ-tu
Anh qua những xóm thôn rừng cây đồng lúa
Lộc Mỹ khe răm hoàng hôn An Định
Hoa Bac is not simply a countryside outside Da Nang, but also a community full of connection and love. In Hoa Bac during autumn, you’ll find the area poetic with the Cu De River flowing silently, leaves changing colors, and occasional thunderstorms refreshing the entire sky.
In Hoa Bac during winter, trees begin to shed their leaves, and the penetrating cold seeps into misty early mornings.
Throughout the four seasons, Hoa Bac undergoes natural changes with its own unique beauty, yet the genuine, rustic hospitality of its people remains unchanged.
Located between Bach Ma National Park and the Ba Na – Nui Chua Nature Reserve, approximately 30km west of Danang city center, Hoa Bac is a valley teeming with vitality. There are two ways to reach Hoa Bac. Firstly, one can “log out” of the city heading towards the Hai Van Pass. At the traffic lights at the intersection of Nguyen Luong Bang and Nguyen Tat Thanh, a decision must be made. The difficulty lies in each route having its own unique beauty, and surely you wouldn’t want to miss anything. The best solution is to take one road there and another road back. The first route is to proceed straight onto Provincial Highway 601. The second route is to turn right, pass over Nam O railway bridge, and then onto Ngo Xuan Thu Street. (It’s advisable to use Google Maps to ensure you don’t get lost.)
What gives life to Hoa Bac is the winding Cu De River, flowing like a silk ribbon before pouring into Nam O Beach. Day by day, the diligent Cu De River carries nutrient-rich silt, favoring agriculture. Along its banks stretch lush green fields growing crops like rice, corn, and sugarcane. If you visit Hoa Bac during sugarcane season, take a break and enjoy a refreshing glass of sweet sugarcane juice by the roadside!
The climate of Hoa Bac carries the characteristic traits of the Central Vietnam climate. However, nestled between two large mountains, Hoa Bac remains cool and refreshing. The best times to visit Hoa Bac are from Lunar New Year until the end of August, encompassing both spring and summer seasons. During this period, the skies are clear, not overly hot, perfect for outdoor activities.
From September to late January, frequent rainfalls make travel more challenging, with potential for landslides. Additionally, most eco-tourist destinations in Hoa Bac are closed during this period.
Hoa Bac comprises seven hamlets: Pho Nam, Nam Yen, Nam My, Loc My, An Dinh, Ta Lang, and Gian Bi. Residents here primarily earn a living through agriculture. As Hoa Bac gains more attention, its services are gradually developing to cater to tourists.
Hoa Bac is oriented towards eco-tourism, exploration, and enjoying nature. Along both banks of the Cu De River, flat sandbanks are popular spots for camping and outdoor activities. Visitors can choose between independent camping or established campsites offering amenities such as tents, BBQ facilities, SUP (Stand Up Paddle) boards, such as Yen Retreat, Hoa Bac Ecolodge, and Lang Me.
The majority of cafes and restaurants here are designed simply, using raw materials like wood, bamboo, thatch, with minimal concrete to harmonize with nature and minimize urbanization.
Hoa Bac is also a favorite destination for trekking enthusiasts due to its pristine hills, numerous streams, and stunning waterfalls like Suoi Mo, Khe Ram, and Thac Coi Tien. However, the trails can be challenging and require experienced guides for safety during exploration. You can also leisurely check-in at points of interest such as the Hoi Yen Church (in Nam Yen Hamlet), Tiem Nha Do rice field cafe, or the bamboo suspension bridge in Pho Nam (connecting Nam Yen and Pho Nam hamlets).
In addition to its recreational and outdoor attractions, Hoa Bac’s local products are worth attention. Local agricultural products such as rice, hill chickens, pond eels, river fish, wild vegetables, sugarcane, watermelon, sweet potatoes, corn, and peanuts can be enjoyed on-site or purchased as souvenirs.
Little known about Hoa Bac is its Co Tu ethnic community living in Ta Lang and Gian Bi village. They have preserved distinctive cultural practices such as cuisine, folklore, handicrafts, for generations. If you are interested in cultural exploration, Hoa Bac offers abundant experiences. The traditional Guaol houses feature robust wooden statues carved by strong Co Tu men, serving as venues for elders to pass down epic storytelling, gong playing, and traditional ceremonies.
Speaking of Co Tu culture wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the skilled hands of Co Tu women who weave traditional brocade fabric into scarves, bags, hats, and clothing, bearing their unique ethnic characteristics.
Hoa Bac is gaining more recognition, supported by Danang’s tourism industry and local authorities promoting eco-tourism and community cultural tourism development. This effort showcases a beautiful and welcoming Hoa Bac, increasingly becoming a preferred destination for both domestic and international travelers.
