“Hey, do you want to hunt the cloud??”

In Da Nang city, when you mention cloud hunting, the first place that comes to mind is likely Hai Van Pass. Apart from Hai Van Pass, there are many other suitable spots for cloud hunting such as Ban Co Peak, Ba Na Hill, Marble Mountains… If you’re willing to venture further, try visiting Mui Trau Pass in Ta Lang village.

How to get there?

From the centre of Da Nang, head towards Nam O – Lien Chieu District, travel along Nguyen Tat Thanh Road and then turn onto DT601. Search for “Diem san may Hoa Bac” on Google Maps and follow the route.

Time

The time to get there is about 45-50 minutes. The best time to hunt the clouds is between 5:30-6:00 AM, so make sure to time it right to catch the best cloud-hunting moments.

It also depends on your “luck” to be able to hunt clouds—it’s not easy because those perfect moments only last for a specific period; a delay of just a few minutes and the clouds may disperse and turn into mist. If you successfully hunt clouds, you’ll be treated to magnificent scenery like a fairyland, with ethereal clouds appearing right before your eyes, like a giant blanket draped across the hills, as if you could reach out and touch them.

Notes for cloud hunting

Although it’s already summer, the early morning weather in the mountainous area can still be cold, so don’t forget to bring a warm jacket. If you plan to stay until the afternoon, equip yourself with a hat, umbrella, sunscreen, and know the locations of shelters and eateries to avoid the midday sun. Afternoon is a suitable time to explore Hoa Bac.

Ta Lang Village and Mui Trau Pass

Ta Lang Village lies at the upstream of the Cu De River, home to a large population of Co Tu people. When visiting Ta Lang, you can visit Guol’s house and during festivals, see the cultural activities like the Tung Tung Za Za dance, which depicts daily life activities along with performances of gongs and traditional duet singing.

Mui Trau Pass is located on Provincial Road 601 connecting from the traffic network of Da Nang city to Khe Tre, Nam Dong district, Thua Thien Hue province. Mui Trau Tunnel was inaugurated in April 2022, situated on the La Son – Tuy Loan expressway, considered the most modern road tunnel today.
