There must be a reason why people say that “rivers are the cradle of human civilization.”
From time immemorial, long rivers have flowed from one place to another as a sacred duty, providing drinking water for humans, serving livestock, irrigation, and a source of seafood supply. Rivers are like blessings that God has gifted for humanity.
Coming to Hoa Bac, you may be impressed by the gentle river that stretches out, winding between the hills and green rice fields. That is Cu De River, a section of the lower reaches of the river that flows through the Cu De village area, so people call it that name, some people also call this river Truong Dinh.
At the upstream, in the commune of Ta Lang, is the confluence of the Nam and Bac rivers. The Bac River flows from the streams on the Bach Ma mountain from Phu Loc commune – Thua Thien Hue province, the Nam River flows from the Dong Giang commune, Quang Nam province, converging at the Million-year-old Rock Area. After a long journey through the majestic forests of the Truong Son and Bach Ma mountain, there were times when the water was fierce and roared like a valiant warrior, but when it reached the pristine million-year-old rock area, the river seemed to change, more gentle, more peaceful, and more modest.
Someone once said: “Sunset is a typical example that the ending is sometimes beautiful.” And the sunset on the Cu De River is a testament to that.
On the nearly 38km long river, the boat silently sails towards the sun, the twilight shimmers on the water, that beauty makes anyone who sees it feel peace, a picture of the beautiful landscape.
The river has been there for a long time, witnessing the mountain town from a deserted place to the days of bombs and smoke, and then to peace. Today, there are no more the sound of gunshots, only the sound of children’s laughter on both sides of the Cu De, only the people busy harvesting on the corn and sugarcane fields, and the birds freely soaring in the sky. Over the years, the river has always been there, like a mother who listens and knows everything about her children, that mother is always gentle and gives love in the most silent way.
Come to the river on a sunset, from Nam O area to the upstream, you’ll be grateful for Mother Nature’s favor, not only for the people who lives in Hoa Bac, but also for Da Nang. If one day the city is too busy and hurried, come back here, sit by the Cu De River, listen to the sounds of nature, let go of the worries and fatigue into the flow, you will find peace.
